This blog may well be entitled Living in Hua Hin, that does not stop to make a quick getaway from time to time.
Tout d'abord, il a fallu trouver un billet d'avion. Après avoir fait le tour des low-cost, dont Air Asia, nous nous sommes aperçus que Thaï Airways était tout aussi compétitive en prix avec des prestations supérieures. C'est ainsi que nous avons fait Hua Hin-Bangkok par la route puis Bangkok-Chiangmai avec Thai Airways.
First, we had to get a plane ticket. After having look for the low-costs companies, including Air Asia, we realized that Thai Airways was just as competitive in price with higher benefits. Thus we made Hua Hin-Bangkok by road and Bangkok-Chiangmai with Thai Airways.
L'arrivée à Chiangmai s'est effectuée sans encombres et nous avons trouvé un taxi qui nous a amené à notre hôtel au tarif officiel, à savoir 150 THB dont 50 THB de taxes d'aéroport.
The arrival in Chiangmai was performed smoothly and we got a taxi that brought us to our hotel at the official price, namely 150 THB including 50 THB airport taxes.
L'hôtel avait été réservé via le site Agoda, ce dont je me félicite. Je recommande d'ailleurs chaudement cet hôtel, le Portico 21, pour la gentillesse de son personnel, sa propreté, son calme et son emplacement.

il y a beaucoup de choses à voir à Chiangmai, à commencer par la vieille ville et ses temples. Ne ratez pas le marché de nuit du samedi soir à l'intérieur de la vieille ville, il est autrement plus intéressant que le journalier situé à l'extérieur. Pour le repas du soir, fuyez les restaurants situés dans le marché de nuit, notamment le restaurant Thaï situé à côté d'une brasserie bavaroise , d'un pub anglais et d'un restaurant belge. Le riz sauté ou le Pad thai y sont au triple de leur valeur habituelle, le tom kha gai est insipide et tout à l'avenant. Bien que décrié dans certains compte-rendus de voyageurs, le restaurant Thai Aroon rai reste une valeur sûre à des prix très corrects. Il est situé en dehors de la vieille ville, 150 m à droite quand on a Tha Pae gate dans le dos.
There are many things to see in Chiangmai, starting with the old town and its temples. Do not miss the night market on Saturday night inside the old city, it is by far more interesting than the everyday one outside. For dinner, avoid the restaurants located in this night market, including the Thai next to a Bavarian brewery, an English pub and a Belgian restaurant. The fried rice or pad thai there are three times their usual value, the tom kha is tasteless and so on. Although criticized in some records of travelers, the Thai restaurant Aroon rai is a safe bet with very correct prices. It is located outside the old town, 150 m to the right when you have Tha Pae Gate in your back.
On ne peut éviter les attractions touristiques proposées par tous les chauffeurs de taxi ou de tuk-tuks. Toutefois, le camps des éléphants de Maetaman m'a bien plus. Il y a un package valant 1500 THB comprenant une descente en radeau de bambous sur 4 kms, un spectacle avec des éléphants, un buffet à volonté, une petite balade en carriole trainée par des buffles pour rejoindre le départ d'une promenade à dos d'éléphant.
We cannot avoid the tourist attractions offered by all taxi or tuk-tuks drivers. However, the Maetaman elephant camp is the one I very much like. There is a package worth 1500 THB including a bamboo rafting on 4 kms, a show with elephants, a all you can eat buffet, a little ride in a car drawn by two buffaloes to reach the departure of an elephant back ride.
Malgré tout, il y a un point qui nous a laissé à tous, sans exception, comme un sentiment de malaise. Il s'agit de la visite du village des 7 tribus des collines. Nous avons eu l'impression de visiter une espèce de zoo humain. Pourtant il faut bien que ces gens vivent et perpétuent leurs traditions.
Nevertheless, there is a point which left us all, without exception, as an uneasy feeling. this is the visit of the village of the"seven hill tribes". We felt like visiting a sort of human zoo. Yet it must be that these people live and perpetuate their traditions.
