Un week-end à Phuket - A week end at Phuket

As we dreamed of Phuket, its clear waters and its picture postcard scenery, we decided to make the dream comes true for a weekend. We took the ticket from Air Asia and booked rooms at the Mai Khao Holiday Inn.

The hotel itself, with buildings limited to three floors, is fully integrated in nature and offers all the amenities one would expect from a hotel of this class.

We left Mai Khao Beach Saturday morning to meet the Island and we spent our first visit to the old town of Phuket. You must see this historic center with its colonial Sino-Portuguese buildings.

We got our lunch at Tung Ka Café, a restaurant located on the top of khao Rang. We strongly recommend this venue as it is so pleasant: friendly staff, nice typical meals from the island and quite correct prices.

After having gone to Rawai, we went back thru Kata, Karon and Patong. We no longer see the scars of the tsunami: everything has been rebuilt very quickly. All were delivered in a short time and in a state we do not see hardly anything.

But when, by force of circumstances, there was a clean sweep of all the horrors that had been built and they had the opportunity to rebuild smarter, they rebuilt everything in worse. Patong Beach, which is the most popular place is horrible. It is a kind of crossbreed between Palavas les flots and Port la nouvelle, with a little more concrete and some buildings corrected by a local Gaudi.

If you add to this the kind of people living there, the prostitutes seeking day and night for clients, those who recover during the day on the beach in order to better join the disco at night, you will have a small idea of this location.

This is definitely not the Thailand we love, it lost its soul, diluted in sex and alcohol.
